Compress images
Working with an upload limit? Set a size target, then check quality and the result. Start at 200 KB or choose your own target.

Three small steps. You’re all set.
- 01
Add images to compress
Choose supported files. Check the destination’s format, file-size and pixel requirements first.
- 02
Set a size target
JPG is the default. Adjust quality and dimensions. Keep PNG for transparency and consider smaller dimensions.
- 03
Verify the actual size
Check the output before saving. If the target is not met, adjust settings and inspect important details again.
A size target is a goal
Images contain different amounts of detail, so one quality setting does not produce a fixed number of KB. Read the actual result. Leave some margin for strict upload limits.
Quality and dimensions work together
For photos, start with JPG quality. Reduce dimensions when the original is larger than needed. For screenshots, check text legibility before saving.
Keep PNG when transparency matters
PNG does not use JPG’s lossy quality setting. Reduce dimensions to manage its size, or choose JPG only if a solid background is acceptable.
Can you guarantee a result under 200 KB?
No. Image content, dimensions and allowed quality affect the result. Check the actual size and adjust settings if necessary.
Will compression reduce quality?
Lower JPG quality and smaller dimensions can remove detail. Inspect important areas and keep the original for another attempt.
Why does quality not affect PNG?
Browser PNG export does not use JPG’s quality parameter. Keep PNG for transparency and adjust dimensions, or compare JPG if transparency is unnecessary.
What if my original is already small enough?
Re-encoding might not help and can increase size. Compare the files; keep using the original if it already meets your requirements.
Are files uploaded for compression?
No. Processing happens in this browser. Animation is limited to confirmed still output; GIF is not supported.
