Supported in this version
Read HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, WebP, JPG/JPEG, PNG and BMP; export still JPG or PNG. Specific files must be readable by the available decoder or browser. GIF, camera RAW, PSD, TIFF, JXL, DDS, EXR, SVG and PDF are not supported.
JPG: balance size and detail
JPG uses lossy encoding with a quality setting. It cannot save transparency, so transparent areas are combined with a background. Inspect the result to choose the right setting.
PNG: keep transparent areas
PNG stores transparency for layered assets. This does not mean the whole conversion is lossless. It cannot recover lost detail or remove a background.
Animation becomes a still image
When animated WebP, APNG or AVIF is detected, you must confirm before a single still frame is exported. Animation is not preserved. GIF is not supported.
KB, pixels and sharpness differ
KB measures storage size; pixel width and height measure dimensions. More pixels do not automatically create more detail. Converting to PNG is not restoration.
Color and metadata limits
Output comes from browser-rendered pixels. Original timestamps, location, camera data, ICC profiles, HDR, bit depth and all content in multi-image containers are not guaranteed. Keep originals for archiving or professional editing.
Processed in this browser
Files are decoded and exported on your device. Loading the website still requests resources, and hosting may produce ordinary access logs. See Privacy for the scope.
Technical references
These maintainer documents explain format features and browser export. They include formats ImageUnbox does not offer; our supported list is the one above.
Three small steps. You’re all set.
- 01
Check the destination
Find accepted formats, file-size limits and pixel requirements. Renaming an extension is not conversion.
- 02
Choose an output
Start with JPG for photos. Consider PNG for transparency or graphics with fine text and edges.
- 03
Review the actual file
Check format, size, dimensions and appearance. Keep important originals.
Why not support every format?
Each needs decoding, edge-case handling and verification. This version focuses on six input families and two outputs instead of advertising unavailable conversions.
Are photos sent to the cloud?
No. There is no remote conversion, remote analytics or advertising integration. Website requests and hosting logs are explained separately in Privacy.
Can a converted image replace my backup?
It should not. Metadata, color features or animation may be lost. Use the converted copy for your task and retain the original.
Why can browsers produce different results?
Decoders, color processing and encoders can differ. Check color-sensitive images or strict file requirements at their final destination.
What can I try when conversion fails?
Check file integrity and supported formats, then try a smaller batch. Renaming cannot fix encoding. If needed, export from software that opens the original.
